Tom Dixon’s challenge: innovating door handle design
Tom Dixon characterises door handles as ‘a uniquely challenging and highly functional set of problems because they are evolved rather than purposefully designed’. He notes that designer door handles often prioritise aesthetics over practicality compared to conventional door handles, as there is little room to change the look based on historical designs. So the challenge for him and his studio was to develop a handle that is not only effective, but also stands out from existing options.
